The practice was first established more than 100 years ago, originally trading under the name of Stramongate Veterinary Centre and based in Stramongate, Kendal.

Iain Richards took over the Kendal practice in October 1996 and our branch practice in Kirkby Lonsdale in 1999. Richard Knight, Gerard Winnard and Jane King all became partners in October 2002.

Having outgrown the old premises in Stramongate, we moved to our new home in July 2004, to a purpose built premises at the Riverside Business Park on Natland Road, along with our new name of Westmorland Veterinary Group, to make a new chapter in our history.

Based on Royal College of Veterinary Hospital Standards Tier 2, the new premises have state of the art operating theatre and preparation areas, four consulting rooms and a spacious waiting area. This new out of town site also provides easy access and dedicated spacious parking for clients.

The practice is registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and inspected and approved to the BSAVA practice standard.  We are also proud to be an approved member of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme. Westmorland Veterinary Group are also apart of the XL Vets Group.

Today we treat over 8000 animals a year, and have a dedicated team of farm, equine and small animal veterinary surgeons.
