The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB)
has revised its code of practice for the prevention and control of
disease, following an outbreak of CEM in Wiltshire in 2002, and an
increase in cases of EHV in 2003. Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA) is also
a constant threat.
The code should be followed by anybody considering breeding from their
mare this season, not just thoroughbred owners.
For a free copy of the code contact the HBLB on 020 7802 3874.
For those sending mares away to stud,
allow at least 2 weeks for swab and blood test results to come back,
these should be taken at the start of a week to avoid weekend post and
the mare does not need to be in season. For more information go to the HBLB website for
codes of practice on Equine Diseases.
