The Practice Nurse & Clinics

Please telephone the practice for appointments and advice with one of our team of 6 veterinary nurses.

Nurse clinics run Monday to Friday afternoons at both premises.  Our dedicated team of nurses are able to offer general care and nutritional advice with a variety of clinics from diabetic stabilisation to nail clipping and advice to help keep your pets fit and healthy.

Weight Loss Clinics

52% of dogs and 47% of cats are currently overweight! This increases the risks of certain health problems e.g. Arthritis, Ruptured Ligaments, Prolapsed (slipped) Discs, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Infectious Diseases, Breathing Problems, Poor Reproductive Ability, Anaesthtic/Surgical Problems. If you think your pet suffers from any of the above, please contact the surgery to discuss whether weight loss could be of benefit to your pet.
The nurse will check your pet's weight, go through their diet and give you advice on helping them lose weight with the most suitable nutrition for your pet.  Feel free to use our Weighing scales in the waiting room at any time.

Weight Loss Clinic Cases

Senior Pet Clinics
This clinic will give you the opportunity to discuss changing needs in senior years, to ensure your pet continues to live a healthy life.  The clinics will be run by a nurse who will closely liase with the veterinary surgeons prior to vaccinations.  These are run on a Monday and Wednesday between 2pm and 4pm.  Please request this appointment when you arrange your pets’ vaccination.

Special Puppy Evenings
These are held at least once a month at both surgeries.  Once the puppy has started a vaccination course, we feel it would be an ideal opportunity for your puppy to socialise and make friends with others of a similar age in a supervised, secure environment.

At the same time, you'll learn veterinary tips to keep your  dog well behaved and in top condition throughout its life.   We hope you will join us for an informative and entertaining evening.  Please ask a member of staff for details.

Thinking about or just acquired a new puppy check out our new Puppy Guides

Juvenile Clinics
This is an ideal opportunity for all clients who have just gained a new member to their family.  The nurse will go through everything you need to know about what you need for your kitten/puppy.  Please make an appointment with our nurse for information on general health checks, neutering, vaccinations, worming and flea checks to adolescent and development check ups.

Pet Behaviour Clinics
These are available on request or by referral by the veterinary surgeon at the Kendal branch.  Please speak directly to the relevant nurse.

Dental Checks
As dental hygiene in dogs and cats is as important as in humans we would like you to bring your pets in for a tooth check.  This will give the nurse or vet the opportunity to check your pets’ teeth and gums, and answer any questions you might have about teeth cleaning and oral hygiene.  Dental disease is very common in cats and dogs, to avoid any potential problems, the nurse or vet will then recommend the appropriate treatment.

Guide to Preventative Care after Scaling/Polishing

Rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas need to chew for long periods every day to allow their continuously growing cheek teeth to be worn down and to prevent spurs forming, which could cut into their cheeks and tongue, making feeding painful.  When a rabbit eats grass or hay, it chews in a sideways movement, wearing the teeth surfaces down evenly.  Concentrates in contrast are chewed in an up and down motion, which does not result in sufficient tooth wear.

Pet Travel Clinics
We have recently started these clinics for clients thinking about taking their pet abroad.  Please make an appointment with a nurse plenty of time in advance so that they can go through all the details and everything you need before that holiday!

Community Nursing
This is available at our Kirkby Lonsdale branch only.  It is directed mainly towards the elderly or disabled who struggle to get into the surgery for their pets supplies.   Please ask enquire for more details.

Physiotherapy
These are available by referral.  Our trained nurse can follow up cases.

Ophthalmology
Also available by referral.  The Ophthalmologist has a clinic at the Kirkby Lonsdale branch.  Please call for more details.
