WEIGHT LOSS CLINIC CASES

Case One

Toffee is a 11 year-old Norfolk terrier. She has a huge appetite for such a little dog and joined the weight loss clinic at 5.9kg when we couldn't feel her ribs for fat!

She was put on a reducing diet plus vegetables when she was feeling hungry. In 6 months she lost 1.9kg - over 30% of her total bodyweight! It was particularly difficult to get Toffee's photos as she finds it impossible to sit still but the results of her diet are plain to see. Well-done!

Case Two

Meg, a 6 year old terrier cross, had become so slow and tired that her owner was worried she was ill and brought her to see the vet.

She was examined and had some blood tested, but the only concern the vet could find was that she was overweight - so she joined the Weight Loss Clinic.

She was 12.2kg when she joined and was put on a low calorie diet.  She gradually lost weight over the next 10 months, but quickly regained her zest for life and was back to her old cheeky self within weeks of starting her diet.

It's great to see her burst into the surgery for her weight checks.

She got down to 9.2kg losing nearly 1/4 of her total body-weight.

Case Three

Ben Crowdy, a 5 year old Labrador, had been lame on and off on his knee for some time. He was referred to the weight loss clinic in hope that reducing his weight would help his knee settle.

We reduced his usual food and resolved to give only carrots or a small piece of apple as an occasional treat. He lost weight well but unfortunately his knee didn't improve as much as hoped and he had surgery to replace a ruptured ligament. Despite having to rest post-op for a while he continued to gradually lose weight until he went from 37kg to 30.2kg, which was just right for him.

Poor Ben absolutely hates coming to the vets - you can see from his photos how his tail is tucked between his legs on his first visit and again at his last visit, which was 8 months later! The great news is that his knee is back to normal.
