Case Three
Ben Crowdy, a 5 year old Labrador, had
been lame on and off on his knee for
some time. He was referred to the weight
loss clinic in hope that reducing his
weight would help his knee settle.
We
reduced his usual food and resolved to
give only carrots or a small piece of
apple as an occasional treat. He lost
weight well but unfortunately his knee
didn't improve as much as hoped and he
had surgery to replace a ruptured ligament.
Despite having to rest post-op for a
while he continued to gradually lose
weight until he went from 37kg to 30.2kg,
which was just right for him.
Poor Ben
absolutely hates coming to the vets -
you can see from his photos how his tail
is tucked between his legs on his first
visit and again at his last visit, which
was 8 months later! The great news is
that his knee is back to normal.
