New Achievement!

Westmorland Veterinary Group has recently achieved the requirements for the BSAVA practice standards scheme.

We are also proud to be an approved member of the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme.

From January 2007 we are having an Equine Stable Block built at the Kirkby Londale practice.  This will be able to support our expanding Equine clientele.

Loyalty Scheme - From January 2007 we have set up a loyalty discounts & points scheme on dietery foods, worm treatments & flea product treatments - so the more you buy from us the more you can save!

Please ring the surgery for more information.

Repeat Prescriptions
We are now able to receive repeat prescriptions and drug orders through email and/or our website

New Medicine Laws
There have been some new medicines laws passed  which will make a slight difference to our day-to-day work.  We must now provide free prescriptions to those that require them which will need 48hrs notice.

The rules governing how we dispense medicines have also changed, so that now all medicines must be ok'd directly by a vet (even Frontline flea treatment) and we must enquire what the drug is used for on farms.  To that end we would ask our clients to pre-book drugs/prescriptions wherever possible to avoid waiting.  Please be patient as these are rules we must comply with to retain our privilege to dispense.

Bird Flu - Proctect your birds from the risk of avian influenza - read the Defra guide.

Staff News

We are pleased to welcome Heather Rothwell who joined us in August 2007, she will be mainly working at our Kirkby Lonsdale branch helping out both in the office and nursing.  Wendy Procter recently returned from her maternity leave, after giving birth to baby 'Chloe' in January 2007.

Karen Appleby is a new starter with us working full time at the Kendal practice covering for Wendy Procter's maternity leave - she is now working part-time from September 2007.  Caroline Hickman also joined us in December 2006 helping us in the reception, office & nursing areas.

New Laboratory Machine
We have just taken delivery of a state of the art blood machine at Kendal.  This will allow us to deliver rapid blood test results at the surgery.

Ultrasound Scanning
The practice has recently taken delivery of a new ultrasound machine which is already proving useful. Ultrasound examinations will be familiar to any one who has had a family in the last twenty years or so as it is a routine part of examinations during pregnancy. Ultrasound has been late coming to the veterinary world, but it is now very widely used.
Advances in Ultrasound

New referral service
We are offering to clients and other neighbouring practices, help and advice plus a referral service if necessary for certain aspects of orthopaedic surgery in small animals.
Our service will not include facilities for spinal cases, these we would recommend, go to a recognised specialist in that field, but will include any other aspects of orthopaedic problems in small animals.
Paul Hibbin  provided a local referral service in Teasdale for fracture repair for the last 10 years. Paul will be happy to help you in both problem cases and first opinion cases.
